In the first quarter of 2025, Kyrgyzstan experienced a significant increase in cut flower imports, with volumes rising 3.7 times compared to the same period in 2024.
This surge reflects a growing domestic demand for fresh flowers, particularly from countries like Colombia, Ecuador, and China.
Colombia emerged as the leading supplier, exporting 65.8 tonnes of flowers, surpassing the Netherlands, which had been the primary source in previous years .
Overall, Kyrgyzstan imported 176.1 tonnes of cut flowers and buds in 2024, valued at $1.2 million, marking a significant increase from 83.7 tonnes worth $651,400 in 2023 .
The most expensive imports came from Poland, South Africa, and Colombia, with average prices per tonne at $28,000, $14,500, and $7,400, respectively .
This upward trend in flower imports indicates a flourishing floral market in Kyrgyzstan, driven by changing consumer preferences and increased demand for ornamental plants.
