On May 20, volunteers dressed casually in hoodies and jeans gathered at the state Capitol grounds to plant thousands of flowers. This event, held every spring, brought color and life to the area as the volunteers worked together.
About a dozen volunteers from the surrounding region joined 20 state employees for the morning planting session.
They planted nearly 10,000 flowers, including begonias, vinca, and coleus. Their work prepared the grounds for the warmer months ahead.
The flower arrangement was inspired by a decorative paint stencil found inside the House and Senate chambers. Nick Simon, a representative from PMSI Marketing Group who invited the media, explained that this design guided the planting pattern.
This annual tradition not only beautifies the Capitol but also brings the community and state workers together in a shared effort to enhance public spaces.
