The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx has launched a new exhibit called “Van Gogh’s Flowers”. This unique show combines the beauty of the garden’s real flowers with the famous floral paintings of Vincent Van Gogh.
The exhibit invites visitors to step inside Van Gogh’s world and experience his art in a fresh way. Michaela Wright, the garden’s director of exhibition content and interpretation, said, “Our tagline is, ‘You’ve seen the paintings, now see them come to life.’”
Flowers hold a special place in Van Gogh’s art. He painted 11 famous sunflower pieces and often featured irises and other blooms.
Wright explained, “Van Gogh’s connection to nature is legendary. He loved the striking color contrasts, like violet purple with yellow centers. Every spring, he painted irises with passion.”
The exhibit goes beyond just showing Van Gogh’s paintings. Visitors can walk through the garden and smell the same flowers Van Gogh would have seen. Wright described the experience: “People can smell the scents Van Gogh experienced and see the oranges hanging from the trees. It’s truly magnificent.”
“Van Gogh’s Flowers” will be open until the end of October. The garden team will regularly change the flowers and plants on display. This means visitors returning to the exhibit will always find something new to enjoy.
