Selecta has announced the acquisition of Piante Keicher’s share in the “Hibiscus Working Group,” a significant step in expanding its portfolio. The Hibiscus Working Group is a collaborative effort focused on the breeding and marketing of Sunny Cities Hibiscus, comprising members Peeters Potplanten, Kwekerij Groenhof, Piante Keicher, Vireo, and Agriom.
About Piante Keicher
Piante Keicher is a well-regarded young plant producer based in Latina, Italy, within the “Agro Pontino” region. Founded in 1985 by Dieter Keicher, the company has built a reputation for its high-quality young plants of Hibiscus and Mandevilla. Since 2014, Piante Keicher has been a key member of the Hibiscus Working Group, contributing to the development of the Sunny Cities assortment, which now includes around twenty varieties. The group’s recent breeding efforts have focused on developing varieties suitable for warmer climates, while also working on varieties for different pot sizes and standard Hibiscus trees.
Selecta’s Expansion
By acquiring the commercial rights from Piante Keicher, Selecta becomes the newest member of the Hibiscus Working Group and will distribute the starting material of the Sunny Cities varieties in Europe. This move is part of Selecta’s strategy to expand its product range and market reach. Recognizing the importance of Hibiscus in global markets, Selecta plans to extend its focus beyond Southern Europe to explore opportunities in Asia and other regions.
