Rajvansh Singh, a retired schoolteacher from Sadar block in Giridih district, Jharkhand, transformed his farmland into a flourishing orchard with over 900 fruit-bearing trees, including mango, guava, and lemon.
After retiring in 2016, he shifted from vegetable cultivation to fruit farming, which is less labor-intensive and better suited to his age. His mango varieties include Langra, Jardalu, Himsagar, and Amrapali, while his guava trees bear Allahabadi Safeda and Lalit, yielding fruits within six months.
Annually, Singh harvests about 10 quintals each of mangoes and guavas, with guavas fruiting twice a year, significantly increasing his income.
He smartly leveraged government schemes and sourced quality saplings from Palundu and Bhagalpur, adopting high-tech farming methods to boost productivity and fruit quality.
Recognized for his efforts, he received an award from then-Governor Draupadi Murmu in 2019. Beyond his own success, Rajvansh now shares his expertise with other farmers, promoting fruit farming as a sustainable and profitable venture post-retirement. His orchard stands as a testament to how passion for plants can lead to both health and financial rewards.
