Bachman’s, a beloved Minnesota institution, will be hosting 140th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all Bachman’s Floral, Home and Garden locations and Cedar Acres. The event promises a delightful day filled with live music, food trucks, photo opportunities, door prizes, special giveaways, and free birthday treats for all attendees. Additionally, the 28 Lunds & Byerlys Bachman’s retail locations will offer free special birthday treats to the first 140 customers at each store.

The journey of Bachman’s began in 1885 when Henry Bachman Sr. started a vegetable farm on their original homestead on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis. Henry’s son, Albert, decided to grow carnations for his mother and sold them at the nearby cemetery. The flowers quickly outsold the vegetables, and thus, the floral legacy of Bachman’s was born.
Today, Bachman’s is a unique family business run by three fifth-generation family members: Susan Bachman West, CEO and President; Karen Bachman Thull, Director of Public Relations and Business Development; and Adam Bachman, Director of Delivery and Logistics. Despite its growth, Bachman’s remains deeply connected to its agricultural roots. The flagship retail location in Minneapolis is adjacent to the original homestead, and many of the plants, flowers, and landscaping products sold are still grown locally in seven acres of greenhouses and a 670-acre growing range in Farmington.
Bachman’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and dedication to serving others. The company has continuously adapted to changing consumer needs, lifestyles, and technology, making it one of Minnesota’s longest-running family-owned businesses. Bachman’s commitment to giving back to the community is evident through its various initiatives, including generous donations, events, and support for local businesses and nonprofits.
Bachman’s operates six Floral, Garden, and Gift locations in the Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding suburbs, as well as 28 floral departments within Lunds & Byerlys grocery stores. The company also has indoor and outdoor landscaping divisions, a weddings and special events department, a wholesale nursery division, and Cedar Acres, a retail location connected to the growing facilities in Farmington. At peak season, Bachman’s employs over 1,200 people.
