The Dahlia Breeders Association (DBA) in De Kwakel, Netherlands, has unveiled its new Dahlia brand, Abbey®. This exciting launch introduces a range of stunning Dahlia varieties developed through a dedicated breeding program started in 2021.
The Abbey Dahlias are specially bred to feature spectacular flower colors and shapes while offering extended shelf life, making them ideal for both growers and flower enthusiasts.
Breeding takes place in the Netherlands, with additional trials in Limuru, Kenya, to test the plants under equatorial conditions. A key focus is on producing disease-free, virus-tested plant material, propagated in-house to ensure quality and health.
The first Abbey Dahlias, including the vibrant Abbey Samba variety harvested on May 22, are being introduced in limited quantities at the Royal FloraHolland auction in Aalsmeer to raise awareness. Agriom Trade BV and ornamental horticulture entrepreneur Karel van Rijn collaborate on this innovative project.
Visitors can see the new Abbey Dahlias showcased publicly for the first time during IFTEX 2025 and at the Flower Trials from June 10 to 13 at Agriom’s De Kwakel location. This launch marks a fresh chapter in Dahlia cultivation, combining beauty, durability, and healthy growth.
