K&B Plants in Temperance has been a beloved destination for blooming flowers and home-grown vegetables since 1984. Founded by Karen and Bill Albring, the family business is renowned for its colorful hanging basket combinations and customizable floral orders.
The Albrings originally focused on vegetable farming, but after local canneries closed, Karen encouraged Bill to try flower retail, which blossomed into their signature offering.
Each spring, from late April through Father’s Day, K&B Plants opens its doors to a variety of vibrant flowers carefully grown and arranged by the family.
The seasonal preparation begins in February, with selections of flower types and colors tailored to customer preferences, though predicting exact demand remains a challenge.
The business has also seen a surge in vegetable sales as more customers turn to gardening amid rising grocery prices, but flowers remain at the heart of K&B’s appeal.
Karen focuses on nurturing and watering the plants, while Bill tends to the vegetable crops. Their daughter, Kristen Brown, who will take over the business by 2026, enjoys connecting with customers and hearing their gardening stories.
K&B Plants prides itself on quality plants that thrive throughout the summer, encouraging repeat visits from satisfied customers.
Their unique hanging basket combos and Al’s Flower Pouches have become a community favorite. Despite economic pressures, the family has kept prices steady to support their customers.
The business remains a true family affair, with Kristen’s children also pitching in during the busy season.
As the Albrings gradually transition ownership, they continue to nurture the plants and flowers that have made K&B Plants a local staple for over four decades.
The greenhouse is open Monday through Saturday at 623 East Samaria Road, Temperance, welcoming gardeners and flower lovers alike.
