US: Estabrook’s expands with new greenhouse

by jingji34

Estabrook’s has officially completed its new production greenhouse in Pownal, marking a significant expansion in the company’s capacity and a major step forward in sustainable horticulture. The 55,000-square-foot facility is equipped with cutting-edge technology and environmentally responsible practices, positioning the company for both immediate growth and long-term success.

Innovative Design for Efficiency and Sustainability

The new Pownal Production Greenhouse was meticulously designed to optimize efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. Key features include advanced climate control systems, automated irrigation, low-emission heating solutions, and high-transmission glass construction. These technologies enable precision cultivation, resulting in healthier and more resilient plants specifically tailored to thrive in Maine’s unique climate.

One of the standout sustainable features of the greenhouse is a two-million-gallon on-site pond for rainwater harvesting and reuse, significantly reducing the facility’s reliance on external water sources. Additionally, an integrated radiant heating system powered by propane ensures consistent climate conditions throughout the year with minimal energy consumption.

Collaborative Effort Brings Vision to Life

Estabrook’s partnered with EHR, a leading horticultural solutions provider, to source and coordinate the greenhouse structure, systems, and materials. EHR’s collaboration with a network of top-tier vendors played a crucial role in bringing Estabrook’s vision to fruition. Participating vendor partners included Acme Engineering & Manufacturing Corp., Argus Controls, Attko Greenhouses Inc., BioTherm Solutions, Control Dekk, Dramm Corporation, ErfGoed, Metazet, and TC Control Group, Inc.

“This project exemplifies the potential of collaboration among independent growers, suppliers, and brokers,” said David Toohey, EHR regional sales representative, who worked closely with Estabrook’s throughout the project. “By working together, we were able to create a state-of-the-art facility that not only meets current needs but also sets the stage for future growth.”

Meeting Growing Demand and Expanding Reach

The completion of the new greenhouse comes at a time of increasing customer demand for locally grown products. Estabrook’s leadership is focused on both immediate expansion and long-term opportunities in the horticulture industry.

“During the pandemic, we saw a surge in interest in landscaping and outdoor spaces, as people recognized their value for both economic and personal well-being,” said Tom Estabrook, President of Estabrook’s. “This new facility allows us to double our production capacity and reduce the time needed to grow market-ready plants. We believe the horticulture industry is poised for significant growth over the next few years, and we see an opportunity to expand our reach across the entire New England region with this facility.”

The new greenhouse is expected to play a pivotal role in Estabrook’s ability to meet the growing demand for locally grown products while further establishing the company as a leader in sustainable horticulture.
