The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) is currently inviting applications for Non-Executive Director (NED) positions on its Board. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in guiding the future of the UK’s £38 billion environmental horticulture sector.

The HTA represents over 1,350 businesses spanning garden retail, growing, landscaping, design, manufacturing, and supply. As a leading voice for the green and growing industry, the association provides political representation, insights, commercial support, and collaborative opportunities for its members. It also manages the National Garden Gift Scheme, which generates approximately £40 million in annual consumer spending within the sector.

This is a unique opportunity to join a forward-thinking Board alongside passionate leaders from horticulture, business, and governance. NEDs will contribute to the strategic direction and governance of a dynamic and purpose-driven organization at the heart of UK environmental horticulture.

HTA President, Will Armitage, emphasized the importance of the role: “We are seeking individuals with strong strategic skills, sector insight, or governance experience, and a genuine passion for supporting UK environmental horticulture. Our Non-Executive Directors will be instrumental in ensuring that the HTA remains a trusted and effective voice for our members.”

The HTA is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the full breadth of its membership. Candidates from various backgrounds are encouraged to apply, particularly those with expertise in commercial horticulture, garden retail, or landscape services; finance, audit, or investment; IT systems and emerging technologies; membership organizations or trade associations; and governance and legal compliance. These skills will enhance the Board’s overall effectiveness.

The voluntary NED roles come with a three-year term, and expenses will be reimbursed. Directors are expected to attend four Board meetings and one Annual General Meeting (AGM) per year, with occasional involvement in strategy or committee work.
