Desch Announces Strategic Restructuring And Leadership Transition To Strengthen Future Competitiveness

by jingji34

Desch Plantpak B.V. has unveiled a strategic overhaul of its operations and a leadership shakeup to navigate the turbulent global horticultural sector. The company aims to bolster its long-term competitiveness and resilience in the face of ongoing industry disruptions.

In recent years, the horticultural industry has been battered by a series of unprecedented challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic and the geopolitical conflict between Russia and Ukraine have led to significant volatility in raw material costs and a spike in energy prices. These factors have created a highly unstable environment across the supply chain.

To adapt to these challenges, Desch has decided to cease all production activities at its Mundon facility in the UK. This decision follows a thorough review of the company’s manufacturing footprint. As a result, employees in the UK production division are now at risk of redundancy. In compliance with UK legal requirements, a collective consultation process has been initiated, given that the proposal affects more than 20 employees.

Following the sale of the UK site, all production equipment will be relocated to Desch’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the Netherlands. Importantly, Desch will retain its UK-based sales team and warehouse operations to ensure uninterrupted service and product availability for its UK customers.

In addition to the operational changes, Desch is also undergoing a leadership transition. Jan Willem Wieringa is stepping down from his role as Chief Executive Officer. The company is pleased to announce that Jeroen Schipper has been appointed as his successor. Jeroen brings a unique blend of operational, commercial, and general management experience in the manufacturing sector. His appointment is expected to secure Desch’s strategic roadmap and commitment to continued leadership in sustainable horticulture.

“We firmly believe these changes will make Desch an even stronger partner to our customers,” said Jan Willem Wieringa, outgoing CEO of Desch. “With four factories in the Netherlands and Poland, we are optimally positioned to deliver exceptional products and service throughout Europe.”
