Aquasol Solar has been a key player in the floating solar panel sector for the past five years. Despite initial challenges stemming from the newness of the technology, the company has flourished in recent times.
“Today, people are much more familiar with the concept of floating solar panels,” says Willem Verwoerd, co-owner of Aquasol Solar. Over 32 basins have now been equipped with solar panels, and the embankment wall system developed in collaboration with EKB is gaining popularity. “The experiences from our earlier projects have led to a stable and reliable system,” Willem observes. “With partners like Profloating, Genap, Aiko, and Kenwell, we have made significant advancements and now have a floating system that we are truly proud of.”
Storm Resistance
One of the standout features of the system is its exceptional storm resistance. “This is thanks to the Genap anchor cloth and the design of the ProFloating floating system,” Willem explains. The anchor cloth is heavily ballasted, and combined with the weight of the panels and the unique shape of the floats, it ensures that customers can remain confident even during storms. The system is designed to be flexible to a certain extent, allowing it to absorb wind forces and waves, which significantly reduces the risk of damage. “We’ve never had any damage on the projects we’ve completed,” Willem notes. The system’s low profile further enhances its resilience, and its balanced flexibility ensures effective maintenance.
Panel Protection
Another important aspect is that each panel has its own float, preventing forces from being transferred to the panel itself. “This design choice helps avoid microcracks, thereby extending the panel’s lifespan,” Willem emphasizes.
Environmental and Technological Benefits
All materials used in the system are designed to not release any substances into the water, ensuring healthy and clean water for customers. Additionally, installing floating solar panels helps prevent algae growth in the water basin. Willem and his partner, Hans van Luijk, also highlight Aquasol Solar’s access to the latest advancements in solar panel technology through their collaboration with Aiko. “This partnership ensures not only the highest energy yield but also benefits like Partial Shading technology, which minimizes the impact of localized panel pollution on overall production,” Willem says.
“It is a well-balanced and extremely functional system,” Willem concludes.
