At the 2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, a remarkable new hydrangea variety, Hydrangea Groundbreaker® Blush™, made its debut, captivating the attention of gardening enthusiasts and experts alike. This innovative plant is the world’s first true groundcover hydrangea, designed to bring elegance and beauty to any space, from garden borders to window boxes, with minimal effort required.
Hydrangea Groundbreaker® Blush™ was introduced by Living Creations, a renowned Dutch hydrangea breeder, and was spearheaded by Alex Schoemaker, a sixth-generation nurseryman. The plant first made its public appearance at the Plantarium show in Holland in August 2024, one of Europe’s largest horticultural trade shows, where it was awarded a gold medal. Following its success in Holland, the variety was introduced to the UK market by supplier Plantline at the Four Oaks Trade Show in Cheshire in September 2024.
In 2025, Blue Diamond Garden Centres, who were awarded a gold medal for their immersive walkthrough garden display inside the Great Pavilion at RHS Chelsea, showcased a series of exclusive plants, including the much-anticipated Hydrangea Groundbreaker® Blush™. This hydrangea has quickly become one of the standout plants of the year, earning praise for its unique characteristics and potential to transform garden landscapes.
